Dice Masters Tournaments Play Report

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt in writing a gameplay review, so please be gentle in your comments. My name is Chase Fishel and I play a ton of games. I have dabbled in Heroclix, Star Trek Attack Wing, D & D Attack, and Pokemon. Currently I play Warhammer 40K, Dragonball Z CCG, Warhammer 40k Conquest, and Dice Masters. Dice Masters came out about a year ago. I bought into it but found that there was very little product available and quickly sold everything and moved on. There were a few who remained diligent in the game though. Steven Mount from Tabletop Heroes and Dominic Greene from Cardboard Carnage approached me one day about showing up for a rainbow draft. I really did like the game the first time so I gave it a try. The first even was a rainbow draft using the Justice League set at Wizard’s Asylum. We had 8 people show up to play.

We had a decent turnout for the first Dice Master’s constructed tournament in a very long time. There were seven players. Six of us are regulars who have been playing in the rainbow drafts. But another player showed up that we had never met before. Here is a quick rundown of the top three deck lists:

1st Place: Steven Mount

Psylocke – Kwannon the Assassin

Green Goblin – Gobby

Beast – Mutate – #666

Human Torch – Johnny Storm

Iron Man – Philanthropist

Professor X – Recruiting Young Mutants

Wolverine – Formerly Weapon Ten

Storm – Wind Rider

Save Civilians

Anger Issues

2nd Place: Chase Fishel

Human Torch – Johnny Storm

Professor X – Trainer

Millennium Puzzle – The Eternal Dungeon

Black Widow – Tsarina

Hulk – Green Goliath

Beast – Mutate #666

Storm – Wind Rider

Magic Missile

3rd Place: Daniel (Did not catch his name):

Blue Eyes White Dragon – Blue Titan

Obelisk the Tormentor – Fist of Fate

Lord of D – Dragon Protector

Baby Dragon – Cut But Dangerous

Slifer the Sky Dragon – Growing Even Stronger

The Winged Dragon of Ra – Blaze Cannon

Curse of Dragon – Skeletal Structure

Red Eyes B. Dragon – Plated Body

(Unsure of Actions)

While Steven and myself have devoted a large amount of time researching the game and came with top tier decks, it was Daniel’s deck that I was most interested in. It was all from the Yugioh set. I played him the first game and he admitted that it was the first time he had played against another person. Looking back at the game, he could have very easily ramped up into one of his big dragons. He learned from that mistake and won two long games. Overall, I think everyone had a lot of fun. Even one of the employees at Hero Complex joined in the fun and bought a large quantity of packs. Pretty sure he will be joining us in the near future. Everyone that played got the promo action card “Teamwork” and the top 3 received a promo “Thor” character card. We are planning on to vary the allowed deck lists each week to keep the games from getting stale. June 22nd’s event will allow only decks with commons and cards from starter decks. The group plays constructed every Monday at Hero Complex and Games at 7:00 pm. We also have a rainbow draft every Friday at Wizard’s Asylum at 7:00 pm. Both Derek and Devin are excited to see the game to start taking off. Everyone is welcome to join our Facebook group Wichita Dicemasters. Our next event will be Friday June 19th at Wizard’s Asylum and we will be drafting from the Dungeons & Dragons set. If you are interested in a demo of the game, please feel free to contact me through Facebook and I can teach you!
